Sharp lines, healthy hedges

A well-trimmed hedge does a lot of quiet work – privacy, wind protection, and making the whole property look cared for. Left too long, though, it does the opposite. We trim hedges of all sizes, from a quick tidy-up to bringing a genuinely overgrown hedge back under control.

Hedge Trimming

There’s no single “right” time to trim, mostly, it’s whenever your hedge needs it. That said, autumn is a great option, since your hedge stops growing over winter and you get the longest possible stretch of it looking sharp, and trimming just after the big spring growth spurt is another good window, since growth naturally slows through summer afterwards.

Once we’re on-site, we’ll trim back to the existing line, set a new (often lower) line if you’re after more light, or simply straighten things up so the hedge is easy for you to maintain yourself going forward – formal hedges, privacy screens or decorative shapes, we’ll talk it through with you before we start.

FAQs

How high can you trim a hedge?

Generally up to around 3 metres, sometimes higher depending on access and equipment. Taller hedges may need specialist tree-topping gear, or climb and trim approach.

When’s the best time to get my hedge trimmed?
Autumn is ideal, since growth slows right down over winter and your hedge stays looking sharp for longer. Straight after the spring growth flush is another good window. That said, if your hedge is looking scruffy right now, there’s no harm getting it sorted whenever suits you.
Can you lower the height of my hedge, not just trim it?
Yes — if the hedge can handle it, we can bring the whole line down to a new, lower height, or simply straighten it up so it’s easier for you to keep on top of afterwards. We’ll talk you through what your particular hedge can take.
How much does hedge trimming cost?
It depends on the length, height and condition of the hedge, so we’d rather come and have a proper look than guess over the phone. Get in touch for a free, no-obligation quote.
