Tree removal, done properly – whatever the reason

Sometimes a tree needs to come down because a storm’s already made the decision for you. Other times it’s simply reached its use-by date – trees have a shelf life too, especially on residential sections where there isn’t much room to grow old gracefully – or things have gotten serious: a leaning tree that’s now more “it’s the tree or the house” situation, or roots quietly wrecking the foundations because someone (no judgement) planted it in the wrong spot years ago. Whatever’s brought you here, our qualified arborists handle tree removal across Ashburton, Christchurch, Darfield and Leeston safely, cleanly, and without the drama.

Emergency removal

A calm day with barely any wind doesn’t mean a tree is safe – root systems can fail with no warning at all, and we’ve seen big, healthy-looking trees come down on the stillest of days. If a tree has fallen, is leaning dangerously, or has a broken limb hanging after a storm, we treat it as a priority and aim to be in contact the same day to assess and where needed remove or start the process to make it safe.

Everyday removals

Not every removal is an emergency – plenty of trees just need to go because they’ve served their purpose, they’re in the wrong spot, or they’re making the rest of the garden worse off by staying.

Common reasons we’re called out for a standard removal include:

  • The tree is rotten, dying, or diseased
  • Roots are damaging foundations, driveways, paths or pipework
  • The tree is on a bad lean that isn’t always obvious from ground level
  • It’s blocking sunlight or simply become an eyesore
  • It was planted in the wrong spot to begin with and is too close to a building
  • Recent earthworks or soil disturbance around the roots have shocked the tree
  • Or it was planted alongside a few others when they were small – now it’s the one tree holding the rest of the garden back from thriving.
Once a tree’s ready to come down, you’ve got options:
  • Fell and leave – a more cost-effective option where we bring the tree down and you handle the clean-up (or ring it into firewood yourself).
  • Full clean-up – we remove the tree, chip the branches and leave you with a clear, usable space (or firewood-ready rounds), start to finish.
Where there’s garden, buildings, sheds or a neighbour’s fence in the way, we use rigging and controlled lowering techniques to bring sections of the tree down exactly where they need to land – not through your greenhouse.

We handle the rest, too

Traffic management, waste removal, council or NZTA notifications where required – if it needs sorting for the job to go ahead safely, we sort it. You don’t need to be the one on hold to the council.

    FAQs

How do I know if my tree needs to be removed?
A few tell-tale signs: the tree is dying or diseased, it’s causing damage to a driveway, path or foundation, it’s on a lean you can’t quite explain, or it was planted too close to a building to begin with. If you’re not sure, we offer a free site visit and will always give you an honest answer — including if the tree’s actually fine.
How much does it cost to remove a tree?
It genuinely varies — a small, easy-access tree might be a few hundred dollars, while a large tree needing traffic management, a crane, or difficult access could run into the thousands. Because every site is different, we don’t quote blind over the phone. Get us out for a free, no-obligation site visit and we’ll give you a clear, detailed quote for your specific job.
Do you deal with traffic management, waste removal and council requirements?
Yes — that’s all part of the service where it’s needed. You won’t be left ringing the council or arranging a skip bin yourself.
Can you leave the wood for firewood?
Absolutely — just let us know when we quote the job whether you’d like the rounds left for firewood, or the whole site cleared and chipped away.
Why would you remove a perfectly healthy-looking tree?
Not every removal is about a sick tree. Sometimes it’s root damage you can’t see, a lean that’s not obvious from the ground, or a tree that was simply planted in the wrong spot years ago. We’ll always explain exactly why we’re recommending removal — and we can talk you through a better spot to plant the next one.
